Abstract

The protection of environmental flows is a main challenge pursued by wa- ter regulating agencies in their groundwater management policies. A stylised hydro-economic model with natural drainage is used to compare the outcome of optimal control approach in which environmental flows are introduced as an externality and viable approach in which environmental flows are mod- elled as a constraint to satisfy. This presentation will be based on two recent published papers:
J-C Pereau and A. Pryet (2018) Environmental Flows in Hydro-economic models, Hydrogeology Journal, 2018,
J-C Pereau (2018) Conflicting objectives in Groundwater Management, Water Resources and Economics, 2018.
