Environmental ﬂows in Groundwater models

The protection of environmental ﬂows is a main challenge pursued by wa- ter regulating agencies in their groundwater management policies. A stylised hydro-economic model with natural drainage is used to compare the outcome of optimal control approach in which environmental ﬂows are introduced as an externality and viable approach in which environmental ﬂows are mod- elled as a constraint to satisfy. This presentation will be based on two recent published papers:
